Seven years ago Pascal Schumacher played at North Sea Jazz with his quartet. Now the virtuoso vibraphonist will return with the same quartet, with familiar musicians like keyboard player Franz von Chossy and drummer Jens Düppe, complemented by a special lineup of friends. Schumacher works on several projects simultaneously. Last year alone he released two albums, Afrodiziak and Left Tokyo Right, and performed his Concerto For Vibraphone And Orchestra in his birthplace Luxemburg. At North Sea Jazz Schumacher will play compositions from Left Tokyo Right. According to the Belgian magazine Jazzmozaïek it is “perhaps his most ambitious project,” and features trumpeter Verneri Pohjola and Sylvain Rifflet on saxophone and clarinet, rendering a beautifully subdued interpretation of Ryuichi Sakamoto’s Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence.
