The way American singer Gregory Porter has worked on his solo career these past years is impressive. By performing a lot, and leaving a lasting impression with each concert, he has built a huge fan base. Porter's warm and mature sound is very attractive to many. Yet it could all have transpired so differently. Porter was on his way to becoming an American football star, when a shoulder injury put a spoke in the wheel. While injured he accidentally attended a jam session and this led to an obsession for making music. Porter, who is now past forty, will not have had a single regret. After three powerful albums, he is regarded as one of the best jazz singers of today. His new album Take Me To The Alley will be released in early May. It's self-explanatory that he has often performed at North Sea Jazz, where he already appeared in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
