Simply Red frontman Mick Hucknall is one of the few people who can say they were present at the legendary Sex Pistols concert in Manchester in 1976 that marked the birth of the punk movement. Hucknall was part of the scene but soon he’d had enough of punk’s three-chord approach. He founded Simply Red in which he could express his love of soul and melodic pop. The soulful debut album Picture Book was released in 1985 and was an international success. For following albums, the band absorbed the influences of funk, reggae, jazz and dance without ever losing their own unmistakable sound. Hucknall led the life of a superstar until he married in 2010 and became a father. He decided to disband the group and dedicate himself to parenthood, but in 2015 Simply Red reformed for a reunion tour which is still going on.
