As Artist in Residence, trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf is performing a total of three times, including once with the Metropole Orkest conducted by Jules Buckley. They are no strangers to one another because in September 2015 they performed the piece Elephant's Tooth together in Bremen. Born in Lebanon, Maalouf (1980) is regarded as one of the foremost innovators in jazz and on the trumpet. His music contains Arab influences which he is able to express in his playing through the addition of a fourth valve. Maalouf is slowly becoming a favorite among audiences with his compelling music and the beautiful sound of his trumpet. His musical palette knows no bounds and ranges from Eastern music to world, jazz and pop and sometimes classical music. He does not believe in meaningless sounds. Maalouf’s talent as a composer comes into its own when collaborating with an imposing ensemble like the Metropole Orkest, with whom he is celebrating his tenth anniversary as a live artist.
