With her debut Virgo from 2013 singer and pianist Maartje Meijer made a spectacular entrance onto the jazz scene. A highly personal and multi-faceted album with beautiful arrangements, showcasing Meijer's crystal clear voice and piano playing. “A record that makes you want to speak in superlatives,” online music community Mpodia wrote. Meanwhile she has performed at Dutch festivals like Jazz in Duketown, Cutting Edge Jazz Festival and important venues like the Bimhuis, LantarenVenster and the Concertgebouw. Meijer is also active as an arranger and composer for many band and choirs, like New Amsterdam Voices and the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. Her latest CD Inner Circle is an extraordinary combination of polyrhythmic pop and cinematic jazz. Important roles on the album are given to saxophonist Maarten Hogenhuis (BRUUT!), bass clarinetist Joris Roelofs, double bass player Tobias Nijboer (Fuse) and drummer Joan Terol Amigó. At North Sea Jazz the Maartje Meijer Band will make its debut, together with master guitarist Jesse van Ruller.
