St. Germain, the alter ego of Ludovic Navarre, is back with a bang! Fifteen years after the release of the album Tourist that sold over three million copies and with which he toured the world for years, he entered the studio once again. The result is the wonderful album entitled St. Germain. Earlier, St. Germain scoured the treasure chambers of jazz and soul for inspiration for his albums; this time he found it in Africa. In Mali, to be precise. The Frenchman didn’t have to travel far to research the rich musical history of that country: he simply took the metro to the African neighborhoods of his home city of Paris. On the new album St. Germain worked with African musicians who play traditional instruments like the kora and the balafon. He is bringing several of these musicians with him to Rotterdam.
