Last year, English newspaper The Guardian dubbed him ‘jazz’s new messiah’. Apart from being incredibly talented and very young, Jacob Collier is also highly inventive and every aspect of his music is distinctive. The creative pallet of this multi-instrumentalist from London has a broad spectrum of colors. For instance, Collier combines jazz elements with a cappella singing and beatbox, using genres like folk, groove, soul, trip hop, gospel, Latin and even classical music as his basic ingredients. And he does all of this with a lot of improvising and great musical subtlety. As a teenager, Collier became famous for his trademark multi-faceted YouTube videos, made in his music room at home, in which he sings all the parts, plays all the instruments, and visualizes every component with a mosaic of screens. His fans include legends like Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock and Pat Metheny.
