Every so often, a band comes along that sets a musical movement in motion. Hiatus Kaiyote is just such a band. This ‘future soul quartet’ handles poly-rhythms and poetry with sheer effortless ease, resulting in the most sophisticated soundscapes. It all started when bassist Paul Bender saw singer-songwriter Nai Palm performing with a pink guitar in a small club in Melbourne. They started writing songs together. Bender contacted multi-instrumentalist Perrin Moss and keyboard player Simon Mavin and from there on things went fast. The band was noticed by producer-songwriter Salaam Remi and he soon signed them on his new label Flying Buddha. They produced their debut album Tawk Tomahawk in 2012 and Remi distributed it worldwide one year later. Since that time stars like Questlove, Erykah Badu, Pharrell Williams and Prince all tried to surpass each other in their praise of the band.
