If you have played for five years in Miles Davis’s famous sixties quintet, accompanied Eric Dolphy, Thelonious Monk and Cannonball Adderley, and recorded more than 2000 albums, you could say it’s time to retire after a very good life: bassist Ron Carter is actually doing the opposite. Even though he is now approaching eighty, he continues to perform tirelessly and explores new paths. Last year at the North Sea Jazz Festival he paid tribute to Miles with Foursight, and this year he is going on an adventure with Pat Metheny. With no fewer than twenty Grammy awards to his name, Metheny is one of the most influential jazz guitarists of the last forty years. The duo gave a highly acclaimed acoustic performance at the 2015 Detroit Jazz Festival and decided to perform a limited number of shows in 2016. Thankfully they have included Rotterdam on their itinerary.
