DJ Meastro, real name Martijn Barkhuis, grew up in a musical family. At age 7 he was given a violin to play, and performed with youth orchestras throughout his childhood. In his twenties, he lost his heart to the Amsterdam club scene. But his classical background is still apparent in his work, mainly through his original choices, perfect compositions and immaculate way of mixing. His Blue Note Trips, the eight compilations he made for legendary jazzlabel Blue Note, brought him international success. His latest album is Little Girl Blue, a tribute to Nina Simone.
