When Prince heard her cover of Sam Smith’s Stay With Me, he invited Kandace Springs to come to Paisley Park to play with him at the 30th anniversary celebration of Purple Rain. Just like Prince, Springs has deep roots in soul and she knows how to put that soul into every genre she explores and, again like Prince, she puts on a spectacular live show. The singer lives in New York, but she grew up in Nashville, the child of a much-in-demand session musician. Her father encouraged her to make music and she started playing the piano at a young age. Originally, Springs wanted to be a jazz singer, but Norah Jones inspired her to embrace soul and pop as well. Springs’ debut album Soul Eyes, that was co-produced by Larry Klein and features trumpeter Terrence Blanchard and songs by Jesse Harris, is due for release on Blue Note this summer.
