Bassist-singer and songwriter Stephen Bruner, better known as Thundercat was involved with music from a young age. His father played drums for The Temptations and Diana Ross, and his brother Ronald Bruner Jr. is a well-respected drummer who has played with Wayne Shorter and Roy Hargrove, among others. Jazz is the basis of Thundercat’s projects and he works with artists like Erykah Badu and Flying Lotus who are able to catch his experimental drift. His collaboration on Lotus’s album Cosmogramma (2010) led to Thundercat’s solo debut The Golden Age Of Apocalypse (2011), co-produced by Flying Lotus. The album marked the beginning of an exploration of a new artistic stratosphere. In 2013 the two joined up again to record the highly praised follow-up Apocalypse, released on the Brainfeeder label. That album blurs the boundaries between pop, funk, electronics and prog rock. In 2015 Thundercat worked on two masterpieces: Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly and Kamasi Washington’s The Epic.
