In 2014, when Michael League, frontman of Snarky Puppy, was asked what he had on his bucket list, he answered: “The only thing I want to do before I die is make an album with an orchestra.” A year later Snarky Puppy and the famous Dutch Metropole Orkest raised the roof of the Energiehuis in Dordrecht during four concerts that together delivered the material for the album Sylva. The combination turned out to be a triumph: this year Snarky Puppy and the Metropole Orkest won a Grammy Award in the category Best Contemporary Instrumental Album. The chemistry between Michael League and conductor Jules Buckley, the leaders of the two groups, is the key to their success. These two musicians were able to blend the two ensembles into an impressive musical whole. Funk, rock, cinema and jazz - a multitude of styles are on display with starring roles for the soloists in every section.
