Dutchman Jameszoo (whose real name is Mitchell van Dinther) only needed two songs to make a name for himself. On the EP Leaf People, released on the Kindred Spirits label, the title song which features American soul singer Coultrain, is wonderful. The second song, Slaves Mass, is more unfamiliar and a tribute to Brazilian musician Hermeto Pascoal. Jameszoo is a connoisseur of avant-garde jazz. His style can be placed somewhere between Robert Wyatt and electronic music; it's colorful and progressive, yet chaotic and bizarre. Jameszoo has collaborated with John Coltrane's former pianist Steve Kuhn and was able to contract the legendary Brazilian guitarist Arthur Verocai for a series of studio sessions. As a DJ he has shared the turntable with Jazzanova and Kode9. This year his songs received the enthusiastic attention of celebrated electronic hip hop producer Flying Lotus who signed him on his Brainfeeder label. The eclectic Jameszoo will perform the result at North Sea Jazz.
