With the Jonathan Scales Fourchestra, American steel pannist Jonathan Scales has proven himself a supreme innovator on the Caribbean instrument. His band reaches dizzying heights while playing Scales’s own compositions. His talent for improvisation is unparalleled and together with virtuoso bassist Cody Wright (special note: in looks and playing Wright is similar to legendary bassist Jaco Pastorius) and drummer Chaisaray ‘Chais’ Schenck the group’s live shows have a lasting impact. In the fall of 2015, the band played in the Bimhuis in Amsterdam where they made a deep impression. On his latest album Mixtape Symphony the steel pannist is supported by admirers including bassist Victor Wooten and harmonica player Howard Levy. Scales, who comes from San Francisco, learned to play while at high school in North Carolina. In his hometown of Asheville, he organizes weekly concert nights featuring guest artists. Scales has released three albums as a soloist. The Jonathan Scales Fourchestra released their debut album Fourchestra in 2013.
