A familiar sound from the past, filled with the pulsating energy of modern times. This is how you can best describe the music of Pokey LaFarge. The singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, born as Andrew Heissler in Illinois, makes pure American roots music with a contemporary twist. Not retro but timeless and with influences from the early days of jazz, ragtime and swing, as well as from blues and country. When he was just seventeen LaFarge, who is now 32, learned to play music when he hitchhiked across the United States and earned his living busking on the streets. During that period he met Ryan Koenig, Adam Hoskins and Joey Glynn, who are still members of his band. Since 2006 LaFarge has released no fewer than seven studio albums and has acquired a sound reputation as a live artist. For the lovers of honest, creative roots music, the show of this bandleader and born entertainer is a must-see at the festival.
