‘Jazz’s young style God,’ as JazzTimes dubbed him, is returning to the North Sea Jazz Festival. Born in New Orleans, trumpeter Christian Scott was raised on music. It was not only the musical culture of the Mardi Gras of his home city that found a place in Scott’s musical brain but also the music of Miles Davis, Bob Dylan and Radiohead. In addition, he is a socially engaged musician who doesn’t shy away from addressing current political issues through his music. In 2015 Scott released a new album, Stretch Music. On this recording, he stretches traditional jazz by creating space not only for other musical styles, but also for different languages and cultures. Scott is always sensational live on stage. His trumpet whispers and screams as it makes you dance and reflect. Scott has won two Edisons, the Paul Acket Award and been nominated for a Grammy.
