Without a doubt this duo belongs to the elite of the Dutch jazz scene. Pianist-keyboardist Jasper van 't Hof (1947) already played at jazz festivals with drummer Pierre Courbois at the age of 19. Later he became a member of the latter's jazz rock group Association P.C. In 1974 he founded the group Pork Pie (together with alto saxophonist Charlie Mariano). Other bands were Eyeball and Face to Face; and the pianist has also worked with Archie Shepp. In 1984 Van 't Hof founded the very successful Pili Pili, at the time playing a revolutionary mix of jazz and world music. His latest (acoustic) album is No Hard Shoulder (2016). Saxophonist Tineke Postma (1978) is much younger, but her credits are also very impressive. Her music has been called post-bop but that description is much too narrow for her free and open approach. In 2015 Postma received the prestigious Boy Edgar Prize; her most recent album (with mentor Greg Osby) is Sonic Halo (2014).
