As if his soundtrack for the much-acclaimed movie Birdman and a role in the Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead weren't enough, drummer and bandleader Antonio Sanchez also released two albums last year. On the first, Three Times Three, he performed with Brad Mehldau and John Scofield, among others. For the second, his most ambitious project so far: The Meridian Suite, he composed a one-hour-long piece. The Meridian Suite is influenced by his work for Birdman. That movie looks like one continuous take and the same goes for his adventurous composition. It is perfectly performed by his band Migration that will join him in Rotterdam. Sánchez has been playing with Pat Metheny Unity Group for fifteen years, but recently he has proven that he is an outstanding composer and bandleader in his own right.
