One could call Diana Krall (1964) a true jazz diva. The career of this singer and pianist, who is originally from Canada, started in 1993 with her album Stepping Out, and she has never lacked attention since. As a pianist and also as a vocalist she is able to crawl into a song and get below the surface. Following the release of some records with smaller labels, she signed with Verve in 1999, releasing albums like The Look of Love (2002) and The Girl In The Other Room (2004). The latter being convincing proof of her songwriting qualities with six songs she wrote, together with her husband Elvis Costello. On the album Quiet Nights (2009) she showed a great sense of intimacy. ‘The new bedroom singer’, the jazz press raved. ‘She performs her songs seductively, compellingly and dangerously.’ Last year the successful CD Wallflower was released, forming the basis of her latest tour.
