At first, sticking a label on American band Davina & The Vagabonds seems easy, but ultimately it’s quite a challenge. Although this exciting quintet, built around singer and keyboard player Davina Sowers, clearly radiates early 20th century jazz and blues, influences from pop, soul and Latin give their sound a fresh and unique feel. Sowers’ voice oozes soul while at the same time it calls to mind Adele, Amy Winehouse, Etta James and Bessie Smith. Over the past three years the band has had successful tours across the US, Canada and Europe. This year they are returning to the international stage to promote their new album Sunshine. The album is bursting with optimism, New Orleans grooves, Aretha Franklin soul and Fats Waller swing. A fabulous live performance with a large dose of energy and passionate musicians is in the offing.
