When Rhiannon Giddens breathed new life into Odetta’s Water Boy in 2013, during the folk concert Another Day, Another Time in New York, she left the audience speechless. Armed with a phenomenal voice, filled with depth and passion, Giddens gave the best performance of that night, most critics agree. The singer-songwriter and her folk group Carolina Chocolate Drops had already won a Grammy in the category Best Traditional Folk Album two years earlier. Giddens released her solo debut Tomorrow Is My Turn in February 2015. The singer excellently renders famous songs by Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton and Nina Simone and others, giving them a personal twist and covers them with a blanket of jazz, blues, gospel and country. Giddens produced her debut album in close collaboration with none other than veteran T-Bone Burnett.
