Star trumpeter Roy Hargrove returns once again to the North Sea Jazz Festival. The American performed here for the first time in 1986, and since that time has become one of the festival’s best-loved musicians. Time and again the wayward Hargrove is able to captivate audiences with his enormous versatility. Traditional or commercial; critics and fans alike rave about him. From Cuban Latin jazz on the Grammy winning album Crisol, right up to the big-band jazz of Emergence, or his pioneering work with hip hop jazz-funk formation The RH Factor; Hargrove does it all equally convincingly. Besides his wide-ranging solo work, he is popular with many famous artists. His unique playing can also be heard on the albums of D’Angelo, Erykah Badu and Common, to name just a few. This year Hargrove will perform at North Sea Jazz with his challenging full swing quintet.
