Nigerian singer and hip hop artist Nneka recently released her fourth album My Fairy Tales. It is a concept album, honing in on the African diaspora; she recorded it in her home country. The theme fits the socially engaged Nneka perfectly. She grew up in the Delta state in Nigeria. At age 19 she moved to Germany to study and there she discovered her incredible talent. By playing in bars she was able to pay for her tuition and at the same time improve her musical skills. With her debut Victim Of Truth she clearly indicated that she wants to be a spokesperson for a new African generation. But America also attracts her, and stars like The Roots, Ziggy Marley and Nas have already worked with her. Nneka sings in both English and Igbo, the language of the people of south-eastern Nigeria.
