‘The most exciting band to come out of Belgium,’ exclaimed music magazine OOR. And De Standaard, too, had high praise for the trio: ‘Three virtuoso musicians who are driven not to outclass one another, but to astonish and surprise’. Dans Dans was founded in 2012 and since then they have been inundated with praise. The trio, Bert Dockx (electric guitar), Frederic Lyenn Jacques (bass, also with Mark Lanegan) and Steven Cassiers (drums), have one foot in pop and the other in jazz. Their raw, evocative, electrifying improvisations have been described as garage jazz or psychedelic blues. The members of Dans Dans prefer to rehearse just long enough to keep hold of the tension of the moment while never losing control. Their early albums contained interpretations of pieces by Tom Waits, David Bowie, Ornette Coleman and Sonny Rollins, among others. The compositions on their latest album, 3, are original and they will be reinterpreting them on stage at North Sea Jazz.
