With his suave voice and perfect interpretation, London-based singer Kwabs reminds us of soul phenomena like Donny Hathaway and Ray Charles. In a musical sense, however, the 25-year-old Brit with Ghanaian roots is following a completely different direction. Kwabena Adjepong, as he is called in full, combines old-fashioned R&B and gospel with dark post-dubstep beats, electro-synthesizer sounds and dreamy soundscapes. An intimate and at the same time intense experience, that is best enjoyed in a live setting. Kwabs is a rising star who was nominated for the BBC Music Sound of 2015 and his single Walk has already been viewed thirty million times on YouTube. This year saw the release of Love + War, his long-awaited debut album, following three successful EPs. A real must for the lovers of sultry soul with a dark, experimental edge.
