Where the Buena Vista Social Club successfully spreads the musical heritage of Cuba, the Spok Frevo Orquestra challenges music lovers with the throbbing dance rhythms of Brazilian frevo. Founder, sax virtuoso and arranger Inaldo Cavalcante de Albuquerque, a.k.a. Maestro Spok, lets all his creativity run wild. With his 17-member orchestra he mixes frevo with spicy solos, smelling of jazz improvisations. Frevo is derived from frever, meaning: to boil. This lively group brings their audiences to the boil in their irresistible concerts full of pulsating rhythms and musical force. Spok formed the company in 1996, but the band came to full bloom in 2003. In 2010 the group made their first appearance at the North Sea Jazz Festival. After touring the globe extensively, Spok and his men are coming to Rotterdam again to whip the audience into a frenzy.
