Inspired by ‘the good lord, wine, whiskey and women’ Reverend Shine Snake Oil Co. plays a devilishly exciting form of rhythm & blues, with a big nod to traditional spirituals. The quartet adds African rhythms, dissonant punk sounds, blue grass, folk, jazz and rock to its music. The result: a the mixture that now and then feels like a rough jam session. The band was founded in New York – by singer Claudius Pratt and guitarist Justin Moses Gunn – but is based in Denmark these days. Pratt has a lot of charisma and seems to strain his vocal chords to the maximum. In 2014 the band released the EP Anti-Solipsism pt. 1 – Creatures, which they recorded in a prison. The troubadours will release its follow-up: Anti-Solipsism pt. 2 – Totems & Familiars just before they show up at North Sea Jazz.
