Singer Leon Bridges is a newcomer from the South of the United States. He grew up in Fort Worth, Texas and his debut album will be released this year. Bridges uses his direct style to delve deeply into the history of gospel and soul. Despite being only 27, the American wants to be a torchbearer for vintage soul music. Bridges broke through with the song Lisa Sawyer, an ode to his mother, about her baptism in a river. Guitarist Austin Jenkins of the band White Denim discovered Bridges on the Texas club circuit. The American music press picked up on him at the SXSW festival. The New York Times listed Bridges’s debut album as a 2015 ‘Album To Look Forward To’. This is music made by a young man with an old sounding soul that melts your heart.
