Francien van Tuinen is a jazz vocalist of rare quality. Since winning the Nederlands Jazz Vocalisten Concours in 1997, she has built up a diverse oeuvre in which she combines refinement and adventure. Van Tuinen doesn’t choose a ‘backing band’ but rather looks for exciting musical collaborations with equally adventurous musicians like Jasper Blom, Harmen Fraanje and Jesse van Ruller. She reworked classic songs for her album Muzyka (2005), and on Daytrippers (2008) she presented unique interpretations of popular works from the Great American Songbook. Her latest album Countrified was released this spring. It contains her own compositions in which you can hear folk and indie-pop influences. Guitarist Jesse van Ruller again plays a central role in the band. Van Tuinen, with her authentic style and flexible timing, provides the perfect counterbalance for the virtuosity of van Ruller, bassist Jeroen Vierdag and drummer Martijn Vink. At the festival, she is giving a dinner concert in the North Sea Jazz Club.
