Singer-songwriter Jelte Tuinstra (24), born in The Hague, has been called a musical prodigy – praise he found hard to cope with. All he ever wanted to do was write beautiful, captivating or funky songs, a dream he had cherished and chased since childhood. But there was a problem: he is shy and modest, traits that do little to help a pop star on his way. Under the stage name Jett Rebel he has been able to shrug off his shyness and do what he does best. With his recent debut album Hits For Kids (2014) and his spectacular live show, Tuinstra – who has already won an Edison (Dutch Grammy) – proves that he is indeed a born entertainer. As Jett Rebel, he screams like a young James Brown and rocks like Lenny Kravitz while the funk of Prince is always present. A creative gem who will only shine more brilliantly in the future.
