Singer Dee Dee Bridgewater more than deserves her reputation as a vocalist. For example, she has won no fewer than three Grammy Awards in a career spanning over four decades. Bridgewater recently embarked on a very special project together with multitalented Irvin Mayfield Jr. and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. She recorded traditional songs with their roots in the heart of New Orleans, Louisiana’s famed city of music. Her new album Dee Dee’s Feathers includes classics like Saint James Infirmary, What A Wonderful World and Big Chief. By joining forces with trumpeter and bandleader Mayfield Jr., the American singer is collaborating with someone who is perfectly equipped to revamp the musical tradition of New Orleans. He had already done so with his band Los Hombres Calientes and later with his powerful work Strange Fruit.
