Tenor saxophonist and bandleader Jasper Blom is one of the most harmonically innovative and multi-faceted instrumentalists on the jazz scene. He has won the European Jazz Award twice, played with giants like Lee Konitz, Chet Baker, George Duke and Randy Crawford, and toured the globe with his own quartet. Blom writes intelligent compositions in styles that vary from intense hard bop to improvised soundscapes and acoustic jazz. The quartet’s fourth album, Audacity, was released early this year. Together with guitarist Jesse van Ruller, bassist Frans van der Hoeven and drummer Martijn Vink – and guest artists Brazilian singer Lilian Vieira (Zuco 103) and Ruben Hein – Blom showcases compositions in which melody, rhythm, improvisation and harmony are seamlessly merged. The Jasper Blom Quartet is an all-star band that is not afraid of innovation and adventure. A musical delight for fans of fresh, accessible jazz with a twist.
