There is an enormous buzz around Benjamin Clementine. Last year, the London-born singer made an instant and huge impression with his two EPs Cornerstone and Glorious You. Clementine left his birthplace for Paris at the age of 19. It was a rash decision inspired by a special offer on the Internet for cheap flights to France’s capital. While living on the streets, Clementine used to busk at Place de Clichy metro station and it was there that producer Lionel Bensemoun discovered him. Clementine is now 26 years old. His narrative-style lyrics are deeply profound and of an unparalleled beauty. His dark voice penetrates skin and bone and has prompted comparison with Nina Simone. His dramatic piano playing includes long silences and is effortlessly distinctive. Clementine’s debut album At Least For Now which was released earlier this year, is an unprecedented achievement.
