The motto of the international ensemble Naked Wolf is: ‘Feel free to dance’. Hardly surprising when you realize that the free improvisations of this sextet can create a highly danceable groove. Angular, hypnotic rhythms produced by Austrian drummer Gerri Jäger, bass guitarist Luc Ex and the pounding baritone sax of Brazilian Yedo Gibson generate a pulsating vibe. Yedo and Australian trumpeter Felicity Provan comprise the horn section, the acoustic element in the band. The electronics of the effects pedals of Finnish guitarist Mikael Szafirowski and the equipment of Seb El Zin provide a loud, but especially unexpected, musical contrast. Naked Wolf alternates long spun-out passages with fast changes in mood and rhythm. Sometimes heavy, at other times tranquil, but always with references to a variety of genres including jazz, pop, world music and noise.
