Like no other, pianist-composer
Randal Corsen is able to build a bridge between modern jazz and Caribbean music. Born in Curaçao the great-great-grandson of a famous poet, he has been one of the greatest musical ambassadors for his country in past years. Corsen made his debut in 2004 with his highly original album
Evolushon, which instantly delivered him an Edison Jazz Award. The 41-year-old keyboard player always looks for innovation and has the courage to experiment in a creative way. Five years ago, Corsen decided to pay more attention to his private life and write music for others. But jazz kept calling, and so he made a wonderful comeback with
Symbiosis (2013), perhaps his most prestigious work. A daring and organic mix of melodious Caribbean sounds, layered classical elements, Latin American-oriented polyrhythm and a dash of rock. At North Sea Jazz, Corsen will bring this ambitious project to life on stage.
