One album by
Benjamin Herman (1968) has only just been critiqued (usually ravingly) and the next is already there. In recent years he has released the albums
Solo and
Live with his trio and now there is a CD on which his formation works together with singer-pianist
Daniel von Piekartz, who is one of the best-kept secrets on the jazz and soul scene. The young and talented von Piekartz and Herman met at the Nationaal Jeugd Jazz Orkest (National Youth Jazz Orchestra), directed by Herman and with whom he performed at North Sea Jazz in 2011. This time they wil musically explore Henry Mancini, Fats Waller and Sly Stone. Loose, dedicated, with a wink here and some excitement there, best describes the music of Benjamin Herman and his band, that also includes bassist Ernst Glerum and drummer Joost Patocka.
