In 2011 Nicolas Jaar released the acclaimed
Space Is Only Noise. A magnificent minimal techno album that was clearly inspired by famous jazz pianists like Dave Brubeck and Keith Jarrett. At the time the American-Chilean producer worked together with guitarist and college friend Dave Harrington. With him, Jaar wanted to broaden his musical horizons with another project. As
DARKSIDE they released
Psychic in 2013. On it the duo appears to effortlessly join together various contrasting style elements. Dark synths, reverberating guitars, lazy beats, deep grooves and haunting falsetto vocals take the listener along on an electronic jazzy post-rock trip. The music by DARKSIDE is complex and daring, but most of all it stays with you. Jaar and Harrington experiment all out, but never color outside the lines in a disruptive way. Nowhere does it sound forced or fabricated. This is a must-see act at the North Sea Jazz Festival for fans of improv electro with a large dose of soul and jazz structures.
