Elastic rhythms, a warm organic sound, soulful singing – all this betrays the fact that
Outkast come from the American South. The duo from Atlanta (André ‘3000’ Benjamin and Antwan ‘Big Boi’ Patton) caused a revolution in hip hop in the 1990s with their innovative approach, which challenged many sacred cows. They have been exploring the boundaries of styles and genres since their debut album
Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik (1994). Their follow-up album
ATLiens (1996) was widely acclaimed as groundbreaking, and the double album
Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (2003) was not only a commercial success but also won no fewer than six Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year. Recently, Big Boi and André 3000 have each gone their own way in music, film and fashion. To celebrate Outkast’s twentieth anniversary, the duo are reuniting for a world tour. Fortunately, the Port of Rotterdam is on their itinerary.
