Born in Kenner, Louisiana, pianist Jon Batiste has played on the albums of artists like Lenny Kravitz, Lauryn Hill and Prince. Batiste grew up in an exceptionally musical family and studied together with trombonist Trombone Shorty at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. This training provided him with fertile ground in which to seed a varied career. In 2005 he made a noteworthy debut with his album Times In New Orleans, on which his contemporaries and fellow Louisianans Jason Marsalis (drums) and Christian Scott (trumpet) also played. Batiste has been touring the world almost non-stop with his band and in between he has had roles in the television series Treme and the Spike Lee movie Red Hook Summer. Last year he released his latest album Social Music, which he recorded with his band Stay Human. Brave but never rash, Batiste is proving to be a great talent.
