German-Afghani vocalist
Simin Tander is
a trend-setting singer on the European jazz scene. With her Dutch quartet the singer, born in Cologne and raised in the Netherlands, builds a musical bridge between Western jazz and her Central-Asian heritage. She explores this heritage in an intense way on her recent album
Where Water Travels Home. Tander’s vocal range is majestic and her songs are intense, poetic and sometimes even mysterious. Performing live, she is a master of vocal improvisation. Especially in the Netherlands and neighboring Germany Tander’s star is rising; she has received raving reviews in dailies and magazines and has already performed at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and North Sea Jazz, where she sang a homage to movie composer Nino Rota in 2004. In 2009 she performed with Eric Vloeimans. This summer she will perform her own lovely compositions.
