Traditional jazz never loses its charm or class. The members of The New Orleans Swamp Donkeys Traditional Jass Band must have been thinking just that when they formed the group a year ago. Since then, things have taken off for the quintet, who come from New Orleans, as their name says. They have crisscrossed the USA in a van, literally clocking up the miles and flooring audiences along the way. Fans of the energetic Dixieland music of the young Americans say that it marks the return of New Orleans jazz, but with a modern twist. The group is inspired by the legendary big bands of the 1920s, as well as by the work of icons like Dizzy Gillespie and Duke Ellington. If you close your eyes and listen to the voice of singer-trumpeter James Williams you’ll hear Louis Armstrong in his heyday.
