Lalah Hathaway has never let her surname stand in her way. She is the daughter of the legendary singer Donny Hathaway, but at an early age she had enough self-confidence to embark on her own singing career. In 2011 she released her latest album, Where It All Begins, which she co-produced and wrote the songs for. Hathaway studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston and recorded her first solo album back in 1990. Since then she has built up an impressive body of work, collaborating with producers like Rideout, the now deceased Phil Ramone and Rahsaan Patterson. In the interim she also performs with the Daughters of Soul and has been a guest artist on the albums of big stars like Mary J.Blige, Marcus Miller and Meshell Ndegeocello. Earlier this year Hathaway and Snarky Puppy won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance.
