When you listen to
Burn, you can feel it coming: the promise of a hot summer in which the
Sons of Kemet will cause quite a stir. The British band’s debut album certainly did just that.
Jazzwise magazine described Sons of Kemet as “one of the most original ensembles in recent British jazz” and the group won the MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Award for Best Jazz Act. Sons of Kemet play undeniably thrilling and hypnotic jazz that you can’t just shake off, with a tribal groove that sets whole peoples in motion. The quartet consists of a combination of saxophone and clarinet, tuba and two drum kits. The result is a revolutionary mix of Caribbean folk, African diaspora and jazz that will leave you pondering for days about what exactly you have experienced.
