Four years ago, there suddenly appeared an experimental, funky and, above all, unique cover of Lady Gaga’s hit
Just Dance on the internet. Without any promotion the number was viewed over one hundred thousand times and soon went viral. It turned out to be by
Dirty Loops, a Swedish powerhouse trio who give pop songs a complete makeover. Or as Scandinavians say: they become ‘loopified’. The band’s spiritual father is keyboard player and singer Jonah Nilsson who, together with bassist Henrik Linder and drummer Aron Mellergardh, uses a jazz approach to transform well-known numbers into unique productions which make the originals look pale by comparison. Hits by Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake have been laid bare musically and restructured. The band now writes their own material and their debut album
Loopified (2014) is in stores. This innovative, exhilarating stage sensation is appearing for the first time at this year’s North Sea Jazz.
