Panamanian pianist
Danilo Pérez made his claim to fame as the youngest band member of Dizzy Gillespie’s United Nations Orchestra. Gillespie was a great musical example to him, but also a mentor: he stimulated Peréz to explore his roots. Peréz already played the piano when he was three years old and went to the Conservatory of Panama when he was ten. Later he moved to America, where he studied composition at the Berklee College of Music. He played with Steve Lacy and Wynton Marsalis, among others. Together with bassist
John Patitucci and drummer
Brian Blade, Pérez was in the rhythm section of the Wayne Shorter quartet for years. As the widely acclaimed
Children Of The Light Trio they will now perform without the grand master and will subtly blend latin and jazz into a magical mix.
