Pianist Peter Beets has played with legends including Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis and Toots Thielemans. In 2001, he crossed the Atlantic to record the album New York Trio, which garnered him a lot of attention. Beets started his career in 1985 as a member of The Beets Brothers and has also been making wonderful recordings under his own name since 1996, including Powerhouse and All Or Nothing At All. Four years ago he caused a stir with Chopin Meets The Blues, an album of jazz arrangements of the melodies of the classical composer. Beets released Portrait Of Peterson which he recorded with a special lineup of great musicians: drummer Gregory Hutchinson, Oscar Peterson’s drummer for many years, and bassist Reuben Rogers. Together they are the rhythm section for artists like Joshua Redman, among others. This year, Beets is bringing this trio to the North Sea Jazz Festival for the first time.
