The septet of flautist-composer
Jamie Baum celebrates its fourteenth anniversary this year. Over the years, the number of band members has grown to nine, which explains the ‘+’ in its name. Baum is from Connecticut but has been living in New York for seventeen years. She has worked with George Russell, Randy Brecker, Dave Douglas, Ralph Alessi, Uri Caine, Anthony Braxton and Wadada Leo Smith, among others. Baum is strongly attached to jazz but in her projects she also regularly ventures into classical music or music from Latin America and India. She demonstrates her strong musical personality and her incredible technique in all these genres. Baum’s latest album
In This Life (2013) was highly acclaimed and was named on many ‘Best CD’ lists. The members of her band are musicians who have earned recognition, like pianist John Escreet, drummer Jeff Hirschfield, pianist Brad Shepik and tabla player Dan Weiss.
