Guitarist and composer
Reinier Baas (1985) belongs to the top of the younger European jazz generation. When he made his debut at the North Sea Jazz Festival two years ago, he blew off the roof. Baas is a guitarist with a fabulous technique and eloquence. He can strum a story in a lyrical way that brings tears to your eyes, only to start rocking like crazy next. And he is accompanied by a group of top class musicians: Maarten Hogenhuis and Ben van Gelder on sax, and Sean Fasciani (bass) and Mark Schilders (drums) taking care of the rhythm section. For their third album,
Smooth Jazz Apocalypse, the band is joined by two other members: pianist Harmen Fraanje and bass clarinetist Joris Roelofs. In this septet classical modern music, indie rock and improv come together, and can lead to explosive happenings in a live setting.
