The name for this band is derived from the famous hall, right in the heart of New Orleans. In 1961 Allan and Sandra Jaffe founded the
Preservation Hall Jazz Band. From the start their aim has been to promote original New Orleans jazz. It has taken the band to famous stages like Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center in New York. In addition, the band members have performed for the royal families of England and Thailand, among others. In the beginning several bands toured the world under the same name. Often with members who had played with the inventors of New Orleans Jazz in the past, like Buddy Bolden, Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton. These days it is tuba player Ben Jaffe, son of the two founders, who is musical director of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Last year the band released their latest album, entitled:
That’s It!.
